A topic evolving around food that I’m presently really interested in is the current, almost obsession around protein powder that has become very popular among (predominantly) young men who train at the gym.

FMP | Initial Ideas
For my Final Media Project I’m still unsure on what I want to create, however I am steering more into the direction of making a documentary. I have had a couple of vague ideas that I’d like to think about more and perhaps develop into something more substantial.
Research | Hélène Louvart (Cinematographer)
I recently watched the film Beach Rats and afterwards immediately looked up online who the cinematographer was. Hélène Louvart is a French cinematographer who has a history of working with women directors. She has worked on over 50 films and has recieved great critical response for her work in Beach Rats (2017), Le Meraviglie (2014), Petit Indi (2009) and Pina (2011).
Idea Development: How Do Our Childhood Food Memories Affect Us As Adults?
I thought it would be interesting to explore and research into how our childhood food memories affect us today. This could be in a more serious context, such as certain events that may have lead to an eating disorder, or something lighter, along the lines of a fun childhood story or something that you once hated that you now love.
Research | Emmanuel Lubezki (Cinematographer)
Emmanuel Lubezki is a cinematographer who’s work I really admire, especially his partnerships with Terrence Malik. His work has helped shaped Malik’s more poetic and abstract storytelling style. He is a Mexican cinematographer who is known for working with very high profile and renowned directors, such as Malik, the Coen Brothers, Tim Burton and Alfonso Cuarón. He first began working in Mexican television, first as a technician and then a director, before he began working as a cinematographer for the big-screen.
Research | Adam Arkapaw (Cinematographer)
Adam Arkapaw is somebody I recently discovered through a German film called Lore. Arkapaw’s cinematography in the film really caught my eye, and once I did some research I found out that I had actually already seen some of his work before.
He is an Australian cinematographer from Sydney who began his career in 2004 and he has a very unique eye for storytelling. Along with Lore he has worked on Top of the Lake, Animal Kingdom, True Detective and MacBeth (2015).
